Day 4 / Thursday

  • Monemvasia  – Gythio – Gerolimenas
  • Total Distance: 141,3 km

The open road leads as to three picturesque coastal villages of Southern Peloponnese. Gythio, Kotronas and Gerolimenas are known for the seafood, the crystal waters and their traditional Greek architecture. The founders of ancient Gythio were Apollo and Heracles. The village was the port of Ancient Sparta and it was destroyed in 4th century AD, possibly by an earthquake. Gerolimenas is a small coastal village at the southern end of the Mani Peninsula. The name derives from the ancient “Ieros Limen”, meaning Sacred Harbor. Until the 70s it was reached mainly by boat. In the past it was a major fishing center.
